Assassin’s Creed Mirage is an intentionally restrained and disciplined move away from the previous games’ mythic-scale RPG expansiveness. It offers a tightly packed, deeply systemic stealth playground within 9th-century Baghdad’s Round City. Here, players are in control of Basim Ibn Ishaq, a street-smart pickpocket who, through stealth, parkour, and varied assassination methods, rises to be a master assassin.

Besides their clandestine activities, a player is also a bit of a master thief, acutely aware of their surroundings and constantly picking locks and slipping into places unnoticed. With the addition of equipable items such as noisemakers, smoke grenades, and throwing blades, the player can now disrupt and confuse enemy patrols when they find it hard to attack a heavily guarded target. A successful approach is always different from the last, and all with a sacrifice-less, one-strike kill.

Meanwhile, the revised parkour mechanics allow fluid and comfortable movement through the city’s highly vertical structures by adding features like pole-vaults and smoother turning.
