Assassin’s​‍​‌‍​‍‌ Creed Chronicles: China starts the trilogy by whisking players back to 1526 Ming Dynasty China, visually delivering a side-scrolling stealth game that combines old-time Assassin elements with the beauty of a moving ink wash painting. The player character is Shao Jun, the last Chinese Assassin, on a revenge mission against the Templar eunuch faction led by the powerful and influential Eight Tigers, with a very limited but efficient set of tools for silence and quick killing. Game mechanics revolve around the need to look for the right moments and subtly use your surroundings in gorgeous layered 2.5D scenes—from the Forbidden City’s gilded rooftops to the mist laden bamboo woods—where the clever “Light and Shadow” mechanism shows your exposure level and the new “Noise Meter” measures the sound of your steps thereby making you synchronize your moves with the sounds of enviromental distractions like a falling vase or a passing conversation.
