Battlefield​‍​‌‍​‍‌ 4 took the modern combat simulator to a whole new level with its Levolution Dynamic Event System that essentially changed the tactical landscapes of the maps by introducing collapsing skyscrapers, sinking aircraft carriers, and destructible dams. The gameplay advanced Naval Combat Integration with the use of amphibious assault vehicles, attack boats, and the launch of the Commander Mode Tablet Interface, enabling strategic oversight through real-time satellite imagery and resource allocation. Improvements were made to the game through Enhanced Netcode and Tick Rate, which helped to solve the issue of hit registration that was most likely to be the cause of previous complaints.

Also, the Field Upgrade Progression within matches gave the squad a way of rewarding themselves with some passive abilities like faster sprint or extended ammunition, which could be unlocked by them gaining more squad cohesion. The in-game Weapon Customization System was the most notable, as it allowed the player to have almost unlimited attachment combinations, which could affect recoil patterns, bullet velocity, and ergonomics, whereas the Test Range served as a place where the players could freely try out their preferred loadouts.

Along with the Multi-Platform Second Screen Support for commander gameplay and the Enhanced Destruction 3.0 that enabled the most detailed damage to the structures, Battlefield 4 was able to deliver a technically refined and very deep combined-arms experience in which the mastery of the environment became just as important as the shooting ​‍​‌‍​‍‌skills.
