Call of Duty: Ghosts breathes new life into the series by blending tactical fighting with environmental changes that are more strategic but still fast-paced FPS. The game lays out the contextual lean and slide de novo that permits players to seamlessly move behind cover or change their position during a fight, thus the new movement depth. The Killstreak system also changes a lot because of the new rewards like the Guard Dog, which is an AI that helps you, and the Odín Strike, which is an emergency call from space. Not only are the maps bigger, but also more engaging with the new features like demolishing elements and the events that change the map dynamically.

This introduces the new perk system, Squad Points, which allows players to create their loadouts from a range of over 20,000 possible combinations, thus rewarding both aggressive and stealth playstyles. Extinction mode substitutes the Zombies for the co-op alien survival, which is a mixture of base defense and creature-slaying chaos. The underwater combat sections and space-based missions are a break from the usual Call of Duty conventions.

At the same time, the new hit detection gives more precise and responsive gunfights. Although it still has the arcade-like gunplay that is typical for the series, Ghosts experiments with its daring mechanics, thus becoming one of the most experimental entries in the franchise.
